Former Softball Star Danielle Lawrie: Fitness Guru Dishes on Her Intense Workout Regime and Healthy Lifestyle
Former professional softball superstar Danielle Lawrie is proving she’s just as dedicated to fitness in retirement as she was during her on-field glory days. Recently, Lawrie offered fans a glimpse into her rigorous training routine through social media, uploading a video showcasing her strength training prowess in a two-piece workout ensemble.
"Trying to show the youngsters what’s up," she captioned the post. "Dark winter months are for heavy grind time."
For Lawrie, fitness is more than just a physical pursuit; it’s a holistic lifestyle encompassing a careful balance of diet, hydration, and self-care. Her approach resonates with fans seeking inspiration to achieve their own fitness goals.
Lawrie’s dietary strategy centers around high-protein foods, a shift she made recently. "The biggest difference in my eating has definitely been a high protein intake, but I’ve worked more on 1 big meal a day (which is usually lunch) and then a small breakfast & dinner," she explains.
When hunger strikes outside of her designated meal times, Lawrie turns to protein shakes or bars. A typical breakfast for her might include grass-fed butter, an English muffin, two eggs, parmesan cheese, egg whites, and feta.
To further augment her nutritional intake, Lawrie adds collagen peptides and creatine to her morning coffee, along with a variety of vitamins (multivitamins, vitamin C, vitamin D, biotin, omega, collagen). "I only have 1 cup of coffee, and I RARELY buy it anymore," she says, noting her preference for brewing her own using a Nespresso machine.
Hydration is another cornerstone of Lawrie’s regimen. She aims to refill her 40-ounce water bottle three times daily and incorporates electrolyte drinks from the brand LMNT.
Rather than meticulously tracking calories or macronutrients, Lawrie opts for an intuitive approach to eating. "I don’t count calories, or macros, or protein intake… I try to have higher protein foods," she reveals. "I’ve always found that when I’m constantly measuring food on a scale with how busy the sports grind is, it turns me off from wanting to do it. I’ve found a good routine and rhythm with it, and I’m proud of myself for the consistency," she writes.
Delving deeper into her exercise routine in another social media post, Lawrie emphasizes the importance of movement for overall well-being. "Movement is medicine," she declares.
"I don’t workout to lose weight or try and get skinny. I admire the challenge, I crave the routine, and I dig the HARD. It’s been engrained in me at a young age. Someone always wants what you want, what are you willing to do to get it? I’m out of playing competitively, but I challenge myself daily with the grind.
I’m 5’7, I walk around right now anywhere from 183-185 lbs. My body fat is 23% (which is high at every doctors appointment)"
Detailing her weekly workout schedule, Lawrie shares her dedication to high-intensity interval training (HIIT), strength training, and cardio. She typically trains five to six days a week, incorporating F45 classes, upper and lower body lifting sessions, scheduling cardio workouts of varying intensities.
Through her candid social media posts and dedication to a vigorous fitness regimen, Danielle Lawrie serves as a compelling example of prioritizing health and well-being in retirement. Her balanced approach to diet, exercise, and self-care provides inspiration for individuals looking to make fitness a truly integrated part of their lives.

**World-Today-News:** Danielle, thank you so much for joining us today. Your recent social media post showcasing your intense workout routine sparked a lot of admiration and curiosity. Can you tell us more about your fitness philosophy and how it has evolved since your professional softball days?
**danielle Lawrie:** Thanks for having me! Fitness has always been a huge part of my life, but it’s definitely taken on a different meaning since retiring from softball. On the field, it was all about being game-ready, explosive, and powerful for those specific athletic movements. Now, it’s more about overall strength, endurance, and longevity. I’m focused on feeling my best, both physically and mentally.
**WTN:** Your social media post emphasized “heavy grind time” during the winter months. Can you elaborate on your workout regime and what makes it so demanding?
**DL:** I believe in pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. My routine involves a mix of strength training, HIIT (high-intensity interval training), and functional exercises. I incorporate a lot of plyometrics, compound lifts, and bodyweight exercises to challenge my muscles
and build functional strength. Winter is a great time to really dial things up becuase there are fewer distractions, and I can really focus on building a solid foundation.
**WTN:** You mentioned that fitness is a “holistic lifestyle” for you. Can you explain what that entails beyond the physical aspect?
**DL:** Absolutely. For me, fitness is about fueling my body with nutritious food, prioritizing sleep, managing stress, and staying mentally sharp. It’s about creating a enduring routine that integrates seamlessly into my daily life. I believe that taking care of your mind and body as a whole leads to a more balanced and fulfilling life.
**WTN:** What advice would you give to our readers who are looking to adopt a healthier lifestyle but feel overwhelmed by where to start?
**DL:** My biggest advice is to start small and focus on consistency. don’t try to overhaul your entire routine overnight. Find an activity you enjoy, whether it’s walking, dancing, or swimming, and gradually increase your activity level.
Also, prioritize nourishing foods and make mindful choices about what you put into your body. Remember, it’s about progress, not perfection.
**WTN:** What are your future fitness goals?
**DL:** I’m constantly evolving my fitness journey. I’m excited to explore new training techniques, challenge myself with different athletic endeavors, and continue inspiring others to prioritize their health and wellness.
