Sofia Vergara Clarifies Comment About Cocaine on Jimmy Fallon Show

Sofia Vergara, the beloved Modern Family star, found herself in a bit of a sticky situation recently when she had to clarify a comment about cocaine that left Jimmy Fallon and the audience in stitches. The 51-year-old actress is currently gearing up for the release of Griselda, a new Netflix limited series in which she plays Griselda Blanco, a notorious Colombian drug trafficker who controlled Miami’s underworld in the Seventies and Eighties.

During her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Vergara shared some insight into her preparations for the role of Blanco. She explained that her experiences growing up in Colombia drew her to the part and expressed her delight at collaborating with some of the best Latin American actors in the industry. However, it was her next comment that caused a bit of confusion.

Vergara mentioned that the director of Griselda, Andrés Baiz, helped her prepare for the role by teaching her how to smoke and do cocaine. Before she could continue, Fallon interrupted, causing laughter to erupt from the audience. Unaware of the misunderstanding, Vergara continued, saying, “It was amazing because I was 51 and I didn’t even know how to light a cigarette. I had never done cocaine. So, it was amazing. It was a great experience.” It was at this point that she realized her error and quickly clarified, “Everything was fake, but the acting was real.”

The actress previously described being a part of Griselda as both a “pleasure and torture.” She found Blanco’s role deeply fascinating, particularly because her ability to get away with so much was due to the fact that she was a woman. “They never thought that a woman was capable of doing all the horrific things she did,” Vergara explained.

In an earlier interview with CBS News, Vergara also opened up about her divorce from Joe Manganiello and reflected on their split being in the public eye. She acknowledged that being a celebrity meant that their personal lives would be scrutinized, but she was pleasantly surprised by the kindness and respect she received from the press. “It wasn’t bad. I think, you know, I have to say the press was very respectful and very nice,” she said. “And I thought that they were gonna invent more things, and you know how it usually is. I was surprised, and they kind of just said what it was, and that was it.”

Fans of Vergara can look forward to seeing her in action when Griselda premieres on Netflix on January 25th. With her talent and dedication to her craft, there’s no doubt that she will bring Griselda Blanco’s complex character to life in a captivating way.
