Sofia Richie Grainge is pregnant with her first child. The 25-year-old celebrity announced the happy news on social media with a stylish Vogue shoot. Dad-to-be is Elliot Grainge, Sofia’s 30-year-old husband to whom she tied the knot in April last year.
Sofia Richie Grainge can soon also call herself a mother in addition to ‘Queen of Quiet Luxury’. The 25-year-old daughter of pop icon Lionel ‘All Night Long’ Richie is expecting her first child with husband Elliot Grainge (30). The couple announced the happy news on social media with a photo shoot and an accompanying interview with fashion bible Vogue.
Jet lag
In the interview, Sofia, who had an on-again, off-again relationship with Kourtney Kardashian’s ex Scott Disick from 2017 to 2020, says that she discovered she was pregnant very early. “I was four weeks along when I was in Milan for fashion week,” she says. The mom-to-be was expected at the Prada show, but said she felt terribly bad. ‘I didn’t really think about it. I thought I was just suffering from jet lag.’
Elliot was so sweet. “Don’t worry if these tests come back negative. Our moment will come,” he said.
Back home in Los Angeles, Sofia took a pregnancy test just before an Ed Sheeran concert. “I knew there would be a lot of drinking that night, so I wanted to be safe.” Since the result did not appear clearly, Sofia took three more tests. In the meantime, husband Elliot, with whom she has been a couple since January 2021, was also at home. Sofia confided to Vogue that the couple had been trying to get pregnant since their wedding in April last year.
‘Elliot was so sweet. He said: “If these tests come back negative, don’t worry. Our moment will come.’, Sofia remembers. But the three tests turned out to be positive. “He was so excited, and we both cried. It was so overwhelming. We wanted to shout it from the rooftops, but because it was still so early, I was very protective. Even to my friends.’
From expensive gift to priceless gift
Sofia and Elliot, who is a music producer and runs his own record label, announced the happy news to their parents by hiding the three pregnancy tests in a gift box from the French luxury label Hermès. ‘I told everyone that I had brought a gift from Milan Fashion Week. Everyone thought, “Oooh, Hermès!”, but when they opened the box, their faces went from “Oh, I’m getting an expensive gift” to “Oh, I’m going to be a grandparent.” That was very sweet.’

Sofia revealed to Vogue that the baby is a girl, but when her daughter is due, she prefers to keep to herself. Sofia does want to say that she is now about six months along. “Being pregnant is quite scary, and you want to protect that space,” she explains. ‘I didn’t realize there are so many milestones and so many tests to take. For me it was very important to protect our mental health and our space as a couple.’
Sofia and Elliot are already very happy with their future daughter. ‘It was always a dream to have a daughter, and Elliot is also very excited about having a girl. I think it’s so typical for boys to want a boy, but he has a lot of sisters. It was very sweet. He’s very sensitive.’
