In Sofia, the work of snow removal teams did not stop during the night due to the complicated winter situation, reports the Sofia Municipality. Intense snowfall, accompanied by increasing winds, continued throughout the night. The snow cover is currently between 25 and 35 cm, according to NIMH data.
Snow and gusty winds on Sunday
On the territory of all 24 regions of the Capital Municipality, several treatments were carried out with the spreading of anti-icing mixtures and the pushing of a snow mass. A total of 130 snow removal machines of the companies engaged in the activity have processed the routes of the city transport, steep sections and bridges, as well as main streets in the districts and partially intra-neighbourhood streets. Municipal roads and the Southern arc of the ring road have also been treated. In some places, 4 treatments were carried out. The work is still ongoing.

There were over 100 reports of fallen branches and trees. Emergency crews are on the scene and responding, with more than 60 fallen branches and trees cleared from roadways as of this hour. Due to heavy snowfall and heavy foliage, many branches are broken and create difficulties for movement.
City transport runs in winter conditions. The adjacent areas of the public transport stops are cleaned. Traffic on tram line 10 has been hampered due to fallen trees, as it runs from the “Ivan Vazov” quarter to the railway station. “Vrabnitsa”. Replacement buses have been launched along the route of lines 20 and 22. Due to a lack of voltage in the contact-cable network, trams from lines 7 and 27 reach the “Ivan Vazov” quarter. In the Vitosha mountain, due to heavy snowfall, the roads are temporarily closed to traffic: “Dragalevtsi” district – “Aleko” hut and “Boyana” – “Zlatni mostove” area.
At the moment, there are no data on suspended heat supply in areas of Sofia. According to the data of “Electrohold”, there are interruptions of the power supply in separate parts of the “Vitosha”, “Pancharevo”, “Kremikovtsi”, “Lozenets”, “Novi Iskar”, “Studentski”, “Bankya” regions. The company’s emergency teams are working to eliminate the accidents.
The equipment and teams involved in snow removal are on the ground and continue to work. A drop in temperatures and an increase in wind is expected. According to NIMH forecasts, a yellow code for strong wind has been announced for today.
The Metropolitan Municipality reminds drivers to drive at an appropriate speed and carefully, as well as with cars equipped for driving in winter conditions.
