/ world today news/ In a matter of days, Sofia has become a setting for criminal actions – two ostentatious murders, a spectacular bank robbery, a melee-slaughter of migrants in the center of the city and violence in the neighborhoods where the migrant accommodation centers are located. Levels of domestic crime – home and office burglaries, car thefts – and their non-detectability remain persistently high.
The degree of uncertainty in the capital is increasing.
Against the background of all this, the position of deputy mayor for security in Sofia is extremely necessary. The councilors from BSP Left Bulgaria have already made such a proposal at the beginning of the new mandate of the Metropolitan Municipal Council.
It is imperative that changes be made to the Law on the Interior, related to increasing the powers and tasks of the Municipal Police in Sofia, to increase its numbers and to function in direct interaction with the deputy mayor for security to deal with domestic crime and protect public order.
We insist that the video surveillance and video control system be fully built on the territory of the Metropolitan Municipality – not only in the central part of the city, but also in the neighborhoods and residential complexes.
A number of changes in legal and by-laws are also necessary to enable better interaction between the Metropolitan Municipality, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the citizens, and the leading initiative should be the initiative of the Metropolitan Municipality administration. These measures will guarantee a higher degree of personal security, protection of citizens’ property, higher detection of crimes and, above all, crime prevention.
The BSP Left Bulgaria group in SOS calls on all institutions to join their efforts to guarantee public order and the security of citizens in the capital.
