Lenzerheide (AP) – The Italian ski racer Sofia Goggia is facing a surprisingly quick comeback after her injury.
The 28-year-old will take part in downhill training in Lenzerheide on Monday, as her association announced on Sunday. The season finale of several days is due in Switzerland next week, the last downhill of the Alpine World Cup winter is scheduled for Wednesday. In the past few days, Goggia has already successfully completed endurance tests in Livigno.
Goggia suffered a fracture of the tibial head in his right knee in a fall next to the piste in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the end of January and then missed the home World Cup in Cortina d’Ampezzo in February. She had previously won four of the first five downhill runs of the season. In the overall ranking of this discipline, the 2018 Olympic champion is still at the top despite her forced break, but only 70 points ahead of Swiss Corinne Suter. In order to win the small crystal ball, Goggia would have to finish eighth on her planned comeback in Lenzerheide.
