“Sofia Court of Appeal Denies Permanent Release for Defendant in Fatal Cherni Vrah Blvd. Accident”

The Sofia Court of Appeal refused to permanently release the defendant Georgi Semerdzhiev from custody. He was sentenced for the serious accident in which two girls died on Cherni Vrah Blvd. in the capital last year. This was announced by the court.

Demerdzhiev: The approach to the “Semerdzhiev” case is negligent

According to the court composition, there is a reasonable assumption about the authorship of the acts, for which Semerdzhiev was charged. In addition, a number of oral and written evidences have been collected and the conclusions of the prepared expertises have been summarized, from which, in their overall analysis, a conclusion can be drawn about the defendant’s probable complicity in each of his alleged crimes.

Demerdzhiev: There is an interesting situation with the drug samples that were taken on Semerdzhiev

The appellate judges believe that if Semerdzhiev is at liberty, there is a real danger of him committing a crime or absconding.

Arguments in the direction of changing the measure of remand of the defendant Semerdzhiev are not derived from the data on the period of his detention, which according to the judges is within the reasonable limits, nor from the data on his health.

The definition is final and not subject to appeal.
