/ world today news/ On April 27 at 10:00 a.m., a protest will be held in front of the Ministry of Economy by tobacco workers from “Sofia-BT” JSC in defense of their jobs.
The Independent Trade Union of Tobacco Workers-KNSB and the National Trade Union of the Tobacco Industry-KT “Support” in the company appeal to all former and current employees of the Bulgartabac-Holding AD group to join the protest in order to save the disappearing branch – production of cigarettes in Bulgaria. After the closure of “Sofia-BT” AD, only one cigarette factory remains in the system of “Bulgartabac-Holding” AD – “Blagoevgrad-BT” AD, which has an unclear future.
Representatives of the workers and employees of “Sofia-BT” AD send another proposal to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for European Funds and Economic Policy Tomislav Donchev, the director of the agency for privatization and post-privatization control and the management of “Sofia-BT” AD, in which they insist to hold a working meeting at which the information about the existence of a real buyer of the production of “Sofia-BT” AD, as well as the provision of the cigarette factory “Sofia-BT” AD for franchising, will be discussed. The workers and specialists believe that with the possibility of making a commitment to restore the work of all the personnel in “Sofia-BT” JSC, the mass layoffs of the more than 400 employees currently employed in the company will be avoided and the clauses in the contract for privatization – commitment to operate the company until 2021.
Until now, despite several protest actions held by the collective of “Sofia-BT” JSC, there is no real dialogue on the problem, the unions say.
