American dance-pop duo Sofi Tukker face challenges outside the musique in their work. “The biggest challenge in the music industry is that we have to do so many things that have nothing to do with music,” Sophie Hawley-Weld told the German Press Agency.
“There are times when we are busy doing so many other things. Like the social network for so many different platforms. They are peripheral but important,” the 30-year-old said. They keep their fans updated on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X, or Snapchat, sharing not only music but also personal snapshots. “We have to consciously make time for music,” she added.
They’ve been performing together as a duo for a decade now, with their self-released debut song “Drinkee” becoming an instant hit and making them world-famous. Things have changed since then. “I think since the beginning, so much has changed in the music industry. The way people find music, how it’s marketed. I think you just adapt,” duo partner Tucker Halpern said.
No worries about the future of the upcoming album
Despite the changes in the industry, neither of them is anxious about the future. It’s not a good use of energy to think too much about the future, Hawley-Weld said. “I think I can use my energy best by focusing on doing my best now.”
On August 23, the duo will release their third album “Bread”. “It’s really exciting to release this album at the end of the summer. I hope we can show it to everyone in the world,” said Halpern. In November, Sofi Tukker will play two of their own concerts in Germany, in Hamburg and Berlin, and will also support Kygo in Cologne.
The duo uses social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X, and Snapchat to interact with their fans and share both music and personal moments. Despite the many tasks in the music industry, such as managing social media, they make an effort to make time to create music.
