Södertälje Secures Second Place with Impressive Victory over Djurgården

Södertälje showed that the table does not lie.
The signings just before the deadline on February 15 were the difference against Djurgården.

As if dropping off at 8.30pm wasn’t late enough. A claw-fingered one in the Djurgårdsklacken in the Scaniarink had managed to get a pyro in – as if the pyro scandal in the same arena almost exactly three months ago had never happened.
The match was postponed for a quarter of an hour. The players had to make their way into the dressing rooms, but luckily it stopped at a smoker in the stands this time.
May this crap NEVER happen again. In some arena.
For the hockey that is played at the top of the Hockeyallsvenskan, these rounds before the playoffs with every point weighted to a thousand are awesome.
Södertälje kept its more than 5,100 strong audience in a good mood for most of the match. But above all from the end of the first period onwards.
Marcus Eriksson is a master at creating chances and was incredibly, almost ridiculously close, to send in a puck, but Djurgården’s Ludvig Rensfeldt and all the world’s inflexibility were in SSK’s way.
Djurgården took control of the match in terms of goals when another “old man”, 38-year-old Linus Klasen served Olle Liss for his second straight powerplay goal when he slammed in 1-0.
Djurgården otherwise, just as often lately, had difficulty creating really hot goal chances. And above all manage them.
Södertälje and sporting director Emil Georgsson have succeeded well with their last-minute signings. New Finn Miikka Pitkänen broke his clean sheet when he did not even a minute after Djurgården’s 1-0 to level 1-1.
And in the third period, when the decision was made, it was defender Amil Krupic, new from Västerås, who got the puck away from the blue line in a power play so that the new center from Almtuna, Hampus Harlestam, touched in 2-1.
More than that, the teams did not differ.
**But SSK was a little better, a little hotter than Djurgården and the three points stayed in Södertälje. ** Goalkeeper Tomas Sholl fought and made some more decisive saves.
Second place in the league is now SSK’s. The team plays carefully, Pitkänen has come in and is putting in a hard job, which spreads energy.
Having lost the three previous meetings with Djurgården this season, SSK broke that streak when it was most needed.
Djurgården, in turn, needs some new energy in some form. Anton Frondell, 16, was one such link in the chain with Daniel Brodin and Ludvig Rensfeldt.
Linus Klasen was very good in the game with the puck. But an expulsion was costly as SSK scored 2–1 on it.
Thanks to this trend-breaking victory, Södertälje has second place in hand in the final sprint.
If SSK plays at this level, with a goalkeeping game like this… Then this city can start dreaming of the SHL for real.
