/ world today news/ Unemployment and corruption are the main problems that the municipality does not deal with, is the conclusion of a survey of the attitude and expectations of the voters towards the work of the local government and the problems in the municipality, conducted by “Barometer Bulgaria”.
As part of a national survey, telephone surveys were conducted with 678 adults in Plovdiv. Every third states the lack of jobs as the most serious problem in Plovdiv, and for every fourth it is corruption. Other problems include the huge gap between the center and the suburbs, high local taxes and fees, too large a Blue Zone and dirty air.
As for the achievement of the current municipal government, for every fifth surveyed citizen of Plovdiv, it is the development of the central part of the city, every sixth points to the infrastructure, and 13% of all – Tsar Simeon’s garden. The choice of Plovdiv as the European Capital of Culture in 2019 is considered the best achievement for only 10% of the respondents.
What would the people of Plovdiv want?
Most of the respondents indicated the greening of the city. This conclusion puts Plovdiv’s recently awarded “Greenest City” award in a strange light, but it seems to be more in line with real sentiments. 75% of respondents want an accessible environment for the disabled and mothers with strollers. In general, Plovdiv residents have a positive attitude towards the projects of the municipal government.
According to the sociological survey, the people of Plovdiv write to the mayor Ivan Totev average three. Only 3.7% of respondents gave him an excellent rating, while every third wrote him a couple. The work of the municipal councilors was rated a little higher. The average score according to the six-point system for the mayor is 3.28, and for councilors – 3.4. The next conclusion of the survey is about the attitude towards a new person in the post of mayor. According to the results of the telephone survey, they are extremely high – 71%. 12.2% believe that there should not be a new mayor, and 16.8% have no opinion.
Would you sell your vote in an election is the last question of the survey and the answers are quite interesting. Nearly 5% honestly admit that they would. Depending on the remuneration, another 10% lean towards it. One in five answers that they would rather not, but such an answer involves hesitation. 31.9% will definitely not trade their vote, and 32.7% refrained from answering at all.
