Sociologist predicts reformatting of Bulgaria’s political map and potential for conservative-nationalist narrative

We are witnessing a reformatting of the country’s political map. This was stated by the sociologist Dr. Parvan Simeonov, who took part in a discussion on the topic “The political crisis – possible solutions and their impact on the local elections”, organized by the analytical club for forecasts “Examiner”.

A niche is opening for a new conservative-nationalist narrative, the analyst believes.

In connection with the newly elected regular cabinet between GERB-SDS and PP-DB, implemented with the mandate of the second political force, Simeonov stated that “sometimes the most difficult things can turn out to be unsuspectedly durable.”

“This does not cancel the potential volatility, I am only stating a hypothesis,” the analyst specified.

According to Parvanov, the upcoming local elections can also have a unifying role.

“If I’m in Borisov’s place, I’ll have the benefit of softening the fall a bit, if there is one.” The contract for a government should also include some kind of contract for local elections,” commented the sociologist.

“The war will have its role. The longer the war is and the more it escalates, the more stable the government will become,” he also believes.

Parvanov also pointed out that the rulers have constructed President Rumen Radev as the “new bad guy” in politics and he can play the role of a counterpoint that further strengthens the governing structure.

According to Parvanov, in the current situation, problems are emerging for the government. The first is that it may turn out to be “too Euro-Atlantic for Bulgarian taste”, and the second is that there is still public energy in the country and people who express a position against the long-ruling GERB party and its leader Boyko Borisov.
