Field epidemiologist from Jenderal Sudirman University (Unsoed), dr. Yudhi Wibowo, reminded the need for education as early as possible regarding monkeypox in order to increase public understanding and awareness.
The lecturer at the Unsoed Faculty of Medicine added that socialization and education about monkeypox can be intensified, as has been done in acute hepatitis.
“Regarding the socialization and education of this disease, I think the government has learned a lot from the COVID-19 pandemic so it will run very well, including anticipating the circulation of hoaxes or fake news, this needs attention,” he explained.
With various programs prepared early on, it is hoped that it can anticipate the spread of the disease. “Moreover, at this time the government continues to increase awareness of the risk of transmission of monkeypox or smallpox monkeypox brought by domestic and foreign travelers in the country,” he said.
In addition, the government must also strengthen early alert surveillance and rapid response as well as integrated coordination and so on.
“In essence, although there have been no cases of monkeypox in the country, comprehensive anticipatory steps still need to be intensified,” he said.
Meanwhile, the virologist from Unsoed, Dr. Daniel Joko Wahyono, said the monkeypox virus is a disease which is similar to human smallpox or smallpox.
