Hamburg / Kiel (dpa / lno) – On the occasion of International Women’s Day on Monday and with a view to the effects of the Corona crisis, associations, parties and organizations in the north have called for gender equality. Even in the corona pandemic, women are more often affected than men by precarious working conditions, poverty in old age, the unequal distribution of housework and family work and unequal pay, according to the Verdi union, the SPD and the Left, among others. The corona crisis should not slow down equality.
The Corona year 2020 has impressively shown that society cannot do without the valuable work that many women do in upbringing, education, care, health and retail, said Gabriele Dobusch, equal opportunities spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group, on Sunday according to notification. It is therefore still important, among other things, to support women with labor market programs. “We have to make sure that women don’t become the losers of the pandemic.”
The service union Verdi called for regulations that give parents planning security in the pandemic. “That is why we work together with our partner unions to ensure that there is adequate income replacement during the pandemic-related closing times of daycare centers and schools,” said Andrea Moder, regional women secretary of Verdi Nord, according to the announcement. In addition, all future political plans, projects and financial decisions should be examined to see whether they promote equality between men and women.
