The project by the mining company Lufo, inaugurated on Monday in Cabinda, by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, expects to produce around 10 kilograms of gold per month. The project is valued at USD 15 million and 200 thousand, invested, between 2019 and 2023, in geological prospecting, infrastructure, transport and production activities, the latter supported by a plant with a washing capacity of 850 tons of soil per hour
The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, stated that the start of gold production activity in the Sociedade Mineira Lufo gold project, in Cabinda, will stimulate direct private investment, paving the way for the transformation of gold as an instrument monetary reserve, as well as boosting exports, thus allowing the collection of foreign currency for the country.
Speaking at the inaugural event of the mining project, located in the municipality of Belize, around 200 kilometers north of the city of Cabinda, minister Diamantino Azevedo also said that the project will contribute to increasing the collection of tax revenue and to the process economic diversification, as well as increasing employment and local development. “It is worth highlighting that all actions developed, within the scope of the implementation of this project, are aligned with the development strategy of the Angolan Executive and the President of the Republic, João Lourenço”, he said.
The exploration of gold and other mineral resources, according to Diamantino Azevedo, is not only an economic activity, but also a commitment to excellence, sustainability and social responsibility, therefore, “we recommend scrupulous compliance with these assumptions by the project promoters.” “In addition, we call on the project promoters to establish a commitment to local development through the creation of jobs mainly for our young people and the creation of social programs that directly benefit the surrounding communities”.
According to the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, the start of gold production in this project is more than an economic and commercial activity, but the realization of a dream, the result of years of hard work in prospecting and research, with large investments . The government official took the opportunity to thank the promoters for their commitment and dedication, and the local authorities and the entire surrounding community, for their continued support in favor of the project’s activities. “Today we inaugurate not just a gold mine, but a legacy of respect, responsibility and excellence so that together we can be protagonists of a story of success, progress and commitment to a sustainable future for our country”.
