Gorontalo City, Kominfotik – To commemorate World AIDS Day which falls on December I 2021, the Gorontalo Provincial AIDS Commission (KPA) held a fun bike that took the starting point from the front of the Maharani Sovenir shop and finished at the Gorontalo KPA Secretariat Office, Saturday (4 /12/2021). This fun bike was filled with socialization related to how to prevent HIV/Aids.
The fun bike was opened by the Chairperson of the Gorontalo Province KPA Idah Syahidah and was also attended by the Regional Secretary of the Gorontalo Province Darda Daraba and KPA administrators and representatives of HIV/Aids Insiders (PLWHA).
Idah said that people living with HIV/AIDS or PLWHA should be treated as normal. Never compartmentalize PLWHA. Because hiv/aids is not a disgrace, but a disease, which requires support from people around to be cured.
“AIDS is not transmitted just by talking to the sufferer, but through other things, such as free sex, the use of needles and other negative things. Eliminate this kind of stigma, what we must stay away from is the virus, not the person,” said Idah
This member of the House of Representatives also hopes that the momentum for the implementation of World AIDS Day can be used as a momentum for the community to care about HIV/AIDS together, and understand the importance of getting tested for HIV/AIDS from an early age, to reduce the risk of contracting it.
The same thing was conveyed by the Regional Secretary of the Gorontalo Province, Darda Daraba. On behalf of the Gorontalo provincial government, Darda thanked the chairman of the Gorontalo KPA and his staff for carrying out this leisurely cycling activity filled with socialization about AIDS. According to him, the public must understand that PLWHA should not be avoided, but the disease should be avoided.
“As much as possible, we must remove the negative and discriminatory stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS in Gorontalo. This means that we have to approach the sufferer, we embrace, the virus that we stay away from. Our hands must be open to them, give them motivation and support. This step is also expected to reduce the rate of transmission of HIV/Aids,” he said.
