Socialism and unity are pillars of the Party and the work of the Revolution

“Only with socialism and unity have we been able to build this colossal work that is the Revolution,” said the Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, in the VII Plenary Session of this entity, chaired by its First Secretary and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

He recalled that this meeting – the highest body of political direction between Congresses – was reached after a vast process of consultation of the central documents, which involved more than 750,000 people, some 520,000 interventions and more than 145,000 proposals, in a universe that far exceeded that of partisan militancy.

With the methodical and critical approach demanded by the harshness of the moment, transcendental issues for the nation were analyzed, with the aim of generating agreements and accelerating decision-making.

Alejandro Gil Fernández, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning, presented an assessment of the performance of the economy during 2023, in which, he said, the levels planned for this year will not be reached.

There was no lack of attention to confronting inflation, which, at the end of the year, is estimated to have grown around 30%, with a slowdown in the dynamics of price growth noted, Gil stated.

Regarding the evaluation of compliance with the Economic and Social Policy Guidelines of the Party and the Revolution and the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030, more than 68,000 suggestions were processed, of which 1,374 standard proposals were born.

Among the most recurrent are those related to the situation of the pensions of retirees and assisted persons, the need for differentiated attention to the health and education sectors, the operation of MSMEs, the bureaucracy in housing procedures, the high prices, the implementation of the Food Sovereignty Law in the municipalities, the marketing system for agri-food products and the situation of public transportation.

In this sense, of the guidelines for the period 2021-2026, he specified that it is proposed to modify 36, add 15 and eliminate three.

The investment of the East-West transfer, in the municipality of Mayarí, in Holguín, and its impact on obtaining food; sugar production, in which even the measures and actions approved to save that industry do not achieve their goal; the strengthening of the Popular Power system; political assurance to economic actors; the socialist state company, which still has a lot to do to find its rightful place; the generation of jobs, among others, were issues addressed on the first day of the VII Plenary Session, which concludes today.
