As of August 2, applications for social electricity tariff beneficiaries have been open. As has been the case in recent years, there are two categories of beneficiaries, while the income criterion starts at 9,000 euros for single-parent families.
This tariff is provided by all electricity suppliers and only concerns the main residence of the beneficiaries.
The categories of CTO beneficiaries
There are two categories of beneficiaries:
a. CTO A includes those who meet the conditions for granting the Social Solidarity Income.
b. CTO B includes those who meet the following conditions:
i. They have annual total actual or imputed income, up to the limits of the table we publish.
For a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of sixty-seven percent (67%) or more, the income limits increase by 8,000 euros.
For a household that includes a person or persons in need of mechanical support using medical devices, which is provided at home and is necessary for their life, the income limits are increased by 15,000 euros.
For each additional adult member the amount of 4,500 euros is added and for each additional minor member the amount of 2,250 euros, up to the total limit of 31,500 euros regardless of the number of household members. The specific upper limit (31,500 euros) is increased by 8,000 euros for a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of sixty-seven percent (67%) or more and by 15,000 euros for a household that also includes a person or persons who need mechanical support using medical devices, which is provided at home and is necessary for their life.
ii. The members of the household themselves have real estate, in Greece or abroad, with a total taxable value of up to 120,000 euros for a one-person household, increased by 15,000 euros for each additional member and up to a maximum of 180,000 euros.
iii. Household members are exempt from luxury tax provisions and do not declare living expenses for yacht crew fees, private school fees and for domestic helpers, drivers, teachers and other staff.
How are applications for inclusion in the Social Household Tariff submitted
The application for joining the CTO is submitted every year in order to re-check the conditions for joining it. Applications are submitted electronically through IDIKA, by the person liable to submit a household income tax return or his/her spouse, with the necessary condition that the electricity supply is already in the name of the person liable or his/her spouse. Each household receives the CTO only for the supply of the main residence.
The COT is applied for the entire four-monthly consumption and up to the corresponding limits provided for each category of beneficiary are as follows:
- Single person household 1400 kilowatt hours
- Household with two adult members or single parent family with one minor member 1600 kilowatt hours
- Household with two adult members and one minor member or single parent family with two minor members 1700 kilowatt hours
- Household with three adult members or two adults and two minor members or single parent family with three minor members 1800 kilowatt hours
- Household with three adults and one minor member or two adults and three minor members or single parent family with four minor members 1900 kilowatt hours
- Household with four adult members or two adults and four minor members or single parent family with five minor members 2000 kilowatt hours.
- For consumption of less than 200 kWh per four months, no KOT discount is calculated.
For a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of 67% or more, the above consumption limits are increased by 300 kWh.
For a household that also includes a person or persons in need of mechanical support using medical devices, which is provided at home and is necessary for their life, the above consumption limits are increased by 600 kWh.
Consumption of 200 kWh is added for each additional adult member and consumption of 100 kWh for each additional minor member, up to the total limit of 2,400 kWh regardless of the number of household members. The specific upper limit (2,400 kWh) is increased by 300 kWh for a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of 67% or more and by 600 kWh for a household that also includes a person or persons in need of mechanical support with use of medical devices, which is provided at home and is necessary for their life.
The discount is 4.5 cents per kilowatt-hour for beneficiaries of KOT B’ and 7.5 cents for KOT A’. It is applied to the charge for the consumption of the day or even the night if the consumer has a night tariff.
