The officials asked Congress to review initiatives that lawmakers have put on the table, the most recent being introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders, according to data from the Social Security Administration. Among the proposed measures are raising the tax rate that goes to Social Security, reducing the adjustments that are made annually for inflation (what is known as the COLA or cost of living adjustment) and gradually increasing the age at which a person is eligible for benefits.
