The financial deficit of the Invalidity, Old Age and Death System (IVM) of the Social Security Fund (CSS), not only worries retirees and those who are part of it, but has become a time bomb for the economy of the country itself, so measures are being sought to give the program a breath of life.
Miguel Ángel Edward, delegate of the National Council of Organized Workers (Conato) before the board of directors of CSS, he stated that it is important to start a broad dialogue as soon as possible with all stakeholders and involved so that the measures to be implemented come out.
Edward indicated that the economic sector proposes parametric measures such as increasing the retirement and contributory ageHowever, whenever there has been a crisis in the CSS, it has been the workers who have come up with the solutions, which is why he believes the time has come to look elsewhere, wondering if the population has benefited from the country’s economic growth with construction. of the Canal.
“There are other sectors here that have very strong economic power that are dedicated only to generating conditions that benefit them, not generating solutions to the problems of Panamanians,” he said.
He stressed that the position of the workers is that the wealth generated by the geographic position of the country permeates the population accordingly and that the profits from using the geographic position benefit the workers and finance part of the worker-employer shareas the increase in quotas and the retirement age will not solve the problem.
