It is recommended that parents do not allow children to use social networks
–
According to a research study on the use of platforms social media By children under the age of 13, it was revealed that more than 40 percent of children use social media, even though the accounts were supposedly limited to teens and adults.
The investigation included networks such as TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, on all these platforms it was found that minors had experienced sexual interaction online, which included stalking, or receiving nude photos, etc.
Thorn, nonprofit organization Child Protection Department, conducted research among 2,000 children in the United States. The worst social platforms where children received sexually abusive messages were Instagram and Snapchat, with 16 percent of minors on both platforms reporting sexual abuse.
66 percent of minors said they blocked the person who sent unwanted or sexually offensive content, while 46 percent reported it on the platform and only 29 percent told their parents or guardian.
The organization Thorn recommends that children need to be better warned of the risks, and specifically they are told that sexual contact online with a minor is illegal and always to be reported.
On the other hand, social networks must ensure that the reporting tools are linked to sources of help and technical support, as well as that the block must generate red indicators similar to the reports. The locking tools also need to be improved to avoid contact after locking.
