Social media star Lil Tay has died at the age of 14 – five years after the controversial rapper, whose real name was Claire Hope, found online fame. The cause of death is unclear.
The news of her “sudden and tragic” death was confirmed by an unnamed family member in a statement shared on the teenager’s Instagram account today. It was also announced that her brother had also died.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of the sudden and tragic death of our beloved Claire,” the Instagram post said, which didn’t include the cause of death.
Originally from Canada but then relocated to Los Angeles, Lil Tay went viral on YouTube and social media for her controversial videos of swearing, insulting people, waving wads of cash and even starting fights.
