Social – Hamburg – refuge for the homeless financed by roof advertising – Society

Hamburg (dpa/lno) – Outside advertising, inside a free place to sleep for the homeless: With an advertising trailer converted into a mobile shelter, the street magazine “Hinz&Kunzt” together with an advertising agency has created a shelter for people without a roof over their heads. The trailer was presented on Tuesday at the Hamburg fish market.

According to the information, the accommodation has been certified by the TÜV. The room, which is accessible 24 hours a day, is ventilated and frosted glass shields from prying eyes. There is also an emergency exit and an emergency call button. The room can be locked from the inside. The trailer will be at the fish market for the next two weeks. A new parking space will be sought at this time.

The advertising space for the first six weeks is already sold out. The companies Kellogg’s, Futterhaus and Linkedin, among others, made the start, as a Hinz&Kunzt spokeswoman said. The ads cost around 5,000 euros for seven days.

The proceeds are initially used to finance the costs of the mobile refuge. All excess money also goes to a fund that can be used to house the homeless permanently in apartments. The car is also to be set up in prominent places in Hamburg to commemorate the fate of homeless people. Further trailers in the Hanseatic city are initially not planned, said the spokeswoman for the street magazine. “The shelter is just a symbol. We’ve been campaigning for solid, permanent shelters for years.”

In the cold season, the city of Hamburg provides several hundred sleeping places for the homeless with the so-called winter emergency program. The offer usually expires at the end of March.
