Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – Young people have reported loneliness and fear of the future in the Corona crisis. This is particularly true of young people who lacked places and spaces in the lockdown to “hang out” and exchange ideas, said the Frankfurt Goethe University. “For psychosocial well-being, open spaces are even more important than practicing hobbies such as sport, music, youth work or social engagement, for example in environmental associations,” explained the researchers. Together with colleagues from the University of Hildesheim, you surveyed more than 7,000 young people online last November.
Another result is that financial worries caused by the Corona crisis are expressed in greater emotional and psychological stress. Those affected often suffered from fear of the future. This finding should be taken particularly seriously, explained the Frankfurt genealogist Johanna Wilmes: “In the young generation, these experienced inequalities manifest themselves particularly sustainably. We know that experiences of poverty have a decisive influence on educational and learning successes.”
The results of this and a previous survey were also discussed in online workshops with young people. There was a demand for more say and understanding of the situation of young people in the pandemic, as the university reported. The young people suggested that the stresses caused by Corona should be discussed in schools. They also demanded that young people should not be portrayed exclusively as rule breakers in the media.
But positive effects of the pandemic have also been noted: less stress, more free time management and self-organization, appreciation of social relationships, more digitization and a more environmentally friendly life – the young people said all of these were named under the heading “A few things you can do.” can keep. “
