A needs survey for nursing staff by the social department has been running in Upper Austria for several weeks. The question is what is missing from the staff in old people’s and nursing homes, as well as in facilities for people with disabilities. The results will be available at the beginning of the year, according to Social Councilor Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer from the ÖVP. We know that there will be a shortage of 1,600 skilled workers by 2025, but not exactly in which regions or areas.
Expansion of mobile services
This is why this analysis is so extremely important for a targeted nursing strategy in the next year, said Hattmannsdorfer. This is not just about training, but also about expanding mobile services, which is also booked in the budget at over 50 million euros. In general, 763 million euros will be available for social affairs in the coming year, which is an increase of three percent, as reported by State Social Councilor Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer.
“Commitment to active social policy”
Furthermore, Governor Thomas Stelzer has pledged 10.6 million euros for the expansion of living spaces for people with disabilities. The social budget thus makes up 10.8 percent of the total budget of the state, which for Hattmannsdorfer is a clear commitment to active social policy. In addition to the skilled workers and the special expansion program for living spaces for people with disabilities, there is another focus for the coming year: integration via the German language.
