The Social Democratic Party of Lithuania (LSDP) has won the parliamentary elections in Lithuania. Nevertheless, the final result, as well as the country’s future government, will only be determined after the run-off elections in two weeks.
The remaining 71 parliamentary seats are allocated in individual constituencies. Eight candidates won in the first round of voting. In the remaining 63 constituencies, the top candidates will compete against each other in runoff elections on October 27th.

After all votes were counted, the Social Democrats received 19.4 percent of the votes, the Christian Democratic “Heimatliche Union” (Homeland Union) 18 percent. The third strongest party, Dawn of Nemunas, a right-wing populist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, pro-Russia etc. party founded just a year ago, received 15 percent of the vote.
The center-left party “Democrats for Lithuania” (Union of Democrats On behalf of Lithuania) won 9.2 percent of the vote, the Liberal Movement of the Republic of Lithuania (Liberal Movement of the Republic of Lithuania) received 7.7 percent of the vote.
Association of Farmers and Greens of Lithuania received 7 percent.
The leading Social Democratic Party (LSDP) and the “Democrats for Lithuania” announced before the votes were counted that they would try to form a government coalition.
