SOCHI, October 7. /TASS/. The St. Petersburg football club Zenit beat Sochi with a score of 2:0 in the match of the 11th round of the World – Russian Premier League (RPL). The meeting took place at the Fisht stadium in Sochi.
Claudinho (9th minute) and Mateo Cassierra (30th minute) scored goals.
Zenit won its first victory in the RPL since September 17, when the St. Petersburg team defeated Rubin Kazan with a score of 3:0. Since then, Sergei Semak’s team lost to Lokomotiv Moscow (1:2) and Orenburg (1:3). Sochi cannot score points in the last six RPL matches; the Sochi team’s series of defeats in all tournaments extended to nine meetings.
Sochi played a home RPL match for the first time since August 27. In early September, the RPL commission recommended suspending games at the Fisht stadium for one month to restore the turf.
After the victory, Zenit rose to third place in the RPL standings, with the current Russian champions having 20 points in 11 matches. Football club “Sochi” is in last, 16th place with 6 points. In the next round, Zenit will host Krylia Sovetov Samara on October 22. “Sochi” will meet with the local “Ural” on the same day in Yekaterinburg.
