Heavy rains on Russia’s Black Sea coast have caused significant damage to Sochi, forcing the authorities to consider evacuating the population.
Several residential areas have been completely flooded, with the water level rising to the height of car windows, according to videos published on social media.
The Sochi administration called on the residents to prepare for a possible evacuation.
“If necessary, we will move people from the flooded areas to safe places,” the authorities said.
Several rivers in the region are in danger of overflowing.
Storms over the weekend have also caused floods on the Ukrainian-occupied Crimean peninsula, which has been occupied by Russia. One person died in the floods.
Meanwhile, meteorologists predict that new storms and landslides are possible.
Heavy rains and floods have also hit the Amur region of the Russian Far East in recent days.
