It is done ! The TFC will return to Ligue 1 next season. Encouraged by more than 24,000 supporters at the Toulouse Stadium on Monday April 25, 2022, the Violets validated their ticket to the elite of French football by beating Niort 2 goals to 0.
Appointment was given at 8:45 p.m. this Monday, April 25, 2022 at the Stadium of Toulouse. The TFC faced Niort on the 35th day of Ligue 2. A match to seal the rise of Toulouse in the elite of French football, after two years of waiting.
Mission accomplished by the Violets after 90 minutes of play. On their lawn, they made the difference against Chamois de Niort, 10th in the Ligue 2 standings before this meeting, 28 points behind their evening hosts. Final score: 2 goals to 0. And at the end, supporters who could not help invading the field.
The Stadium of Toulouse has just exploded. 79th minute of play: “Van den Boomen, what an artist! An absolutely millimeter center for Onaiwu who throws himself on it like a starved, it’s 2-0 for Toulouse!“
It is 10:32 p.m. on Monday April 25, 2022, and the TFC has joined the elite planet of French football.
Will the Toulouse people manage to take the break? There are 15 minutes left to play when the Australian from Toulouse, Denis Genreau, places the ball in the back of the Niortais net. But, it is missed, reported offside.
“I need another goal, I’m missing“, declares Lily in front of the match. The second period is already well underway. The changes follow one another. And in the 69th, hope, amazement, the TFC hits the post on a header from Rasmus Nicolaisen.
The break will have been profitable… Well, almost for everyone. There are those who continue to give voice in the stands… And those who run to the refueling.
“You are so hot that you were too thirsty! Taken by storm, our bars are empty and… have already returned to the locker room!“, the club apologizes, but the half-time seems to have done damage to the supply side of the supporters.
The TFC leads 1-0 against Niort at the break. A well-deserved lead in view of the statistics which speak for themselves over these first 45 minutes of play against the Chamois. Possession of the ball, number of shots on target and successful passes: the TFC undeniably took over their opponent in the first period.
45 minutes from a rise in Ligue 1, as much to tell you that there is enough to put a little atmosphere all the same in a Stadium of Toulouse well stocked by supporters who give voice.
After a very rhythmic start to the match, Toulouse took the lead thanks to a goal from their captain Brecht Emiel Dejaegere.
The Violets have already lit the fire in their Stadium. A first goal which could well have been followed by a second 10 minutes later without the return of the midfielder from Niort, Yohan Cassubie.
Atmosphere, atmosphere at the Stadium… But in the team of Toulouse supporters, some would like to see the public push the Violets even harder. ” Why does the best stand in the championship still have to moan so that the atmosphere takes over?“, asks Priscilla on Twitter.
24,209 supporters filled the Toulouse Stadium to push the Violets to victory, and thus ensure the club’s rise in Ligue 1. But beware, the club had warned its fans: ok for the party in the stands, but no question of entering the field to celebrate the moment with the players. And why not ? In the event of invasion, the TFC could indeed be sanctioned by a closed session during the match against Nîmes.
Apparently the fans couldn’t resist…
There was a festive air around the Stadium, long before the kick-off of this meeting between the TFC and Niort. Many supporters were waiting for the players’ bus to arrive, with smoke bombs and chants in support.
