Naples / Genoa (dpa) – After the next damper of this botched start to the season, Juventus Turin worries a year ago to be forgotten.
“It’s just not going for us at the moment,” said coach Massimiliano Allegri after the 2-1 draw at SSC Napoli on Saturday night. With the second defeat in three games of the season so far and only one point in the account, the soccer record champions have already lost sight of the top of the table in the Italian Serie A. “Of course we didn’t imagine it that way after three games,” said captain and European champion Giorgio Chiellini.
After the “old women” lost the championship for the first time in the previous season after nine titles in a row and secured a place in the Champions League on the last match day thanks to a mistake from Napoli, the new season threatens to be sobering again. Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo left Turin, coach returning Allegri has yet to form a winning team from the young team. “That was a test of character for us,” said the coach after the game in Naples. “Don’t blame the team for doing what it should.”
With two mistakes, Juve had caused the defeat itself. First goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny blundered before Matteo Politano’s goal (57th minute). Shortly before the end, Turin’s young star Moise Kean headed a Napoli corner kick on his own goal, Kalidou Koulibaly made use of the rebound after a Szczesny parade (85th). Alvaro Morata had put Juve in the lead (10th). At the start of the Champions League on Tuesday in Malmö, reparations should be made before the top game against AC Milan on Sunday.
Inter Milan also made a mistake and did not get more than 2-2 at Sampdoria Genoa on Sunday. The champions took the lead twice through Federico Dimarco (18th) and Lautaro Martinez (44th). Maya Yoshida (33rd) and Tommaso Augello (47th) each equalized.
