Coach Adi Hütter has overcome the starting difficulties with Borussia Mönchengladbach. With a 3-1 win in Wolfsburg, Gladbach won the second in a row and improved to ninth place for the time being. After a 2-1 win over Augsburg, Dortmund is the first pursuer of Bayern, who only played against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, and Freiburg is also one point behind Munich. Runner-up RB Leipzig turned their 3-0 home win against newly promoted VfL Bochum only after the break.
Lienhart brought Freiburg into the lead early on. After a corner from captain Christian Günter, the central defender prevailed in a header duel with Davie Selke and left Hertha goalie Alexander Schwolow no chance from five meters (17th). Although the straggler from Berlin was able to equalize through Krzysztof Piatek (70th), Nils Petersen ensured the success of the unbeaten Freiburg with an overhead kick (78th).
Gladbach defeated feared opponents Wolfsburg
After 16 unsuccessful attempts, Gladbach succeeded – without the injured Stefan Lainer and with Hannes Wolf on the bench – another victory at VfL Wolfsburg from substitute goalie Pavao Pervan and the also injured Xaver Schlager.
Breel Embolo (5th), Jonas Hofmann (7th) and Joe Scally (95th) scored for the guests, Luca Waldschmidt (25th) only managed the interim goal for Salzburg’s Champions League opponents, which slipped to fifth place. In the closing stages, Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix saw yellow-red (76th). Lars Stindl missed a penalty for Gladbach (78th).
Dortmund trembles to victory
Dortmund made contact with the top of the table even without the further ailing Erling Haaland, but had to tremble for a long time. As with the 0: 1 a week ago in Mönchengladbach, the lack of the Norwegian striker caused problems. But thanks to the goals from Raphael Guerreiro (10th / penalty) and Julian Brandt (51st), BVB retained the upper hand.
The Augsburg team, for whom Michael Gregoritsch came on in the 78th minute, missed a possible surprise despite the interim equalization by Andi Zeqiri (35th) and a passable performance.
Hoffenheim had to admit defeat 1: 3 with Florian Grillitsch in Stuttgart, the Swabians ended their negative run thanks to Marc Oliver Kempf (18th), Konstantinos Mavropanos (60th) and Roberto Massimo (80th). The late goal by Jacob Bruun Larsen (84th) did not lead to a turnaround. Hoffenheim had to do without ÖFB team player Christoph Baumgartner for a short time due to a muscular injury.
Leipzig struggles with Bochum for a long time
Leipzig was successful, but is still looking for its game idea. It was only thanks to a strong final offensive that former Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch’s team came to a laborious win against Bochum at home. Andre Silva (69th) took the lead 36 seconds after coming on, before Christopher Nkunku (73rd, 78th) increased with a brace.
The runner-up, with whom Konrad Laimer came on in the 79th minute, now has a connection to the European Cup places as seventh in the table with ten points, but is still chasing his own ambitions.
