Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Christian Streich knows about the currently largest problem area of SC Freiburg. In three of the last four games, the SC has not scored a goal. The Bundesliga club has also barely developed any chances recently. “That’s a stupid statistic, but it’s true,” said coach Streich before the away game at Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Sunday (6pm / Sky). The 55-year-old also knows the reasons. “We didn’t come into the room and made too many unforced errors, as you would say in tennis.”
The Breisgauer recently left some best opportunities, in the most recent 0: 1 against Union Berlin not even more opportunities jumped out. Nevertheless, Streich can currently deal with the problems of his team relatively relaxed, because the SC is already almost certain of relegation. The mood was still very good anyway, he reported. This is also confirmed by Ermedin Demirovic, who is one of the offensive players who recently did not go so well.
In January, the Bosnian had two goals and six assists. Now he has been in the Bundesliga for over a month without a goal or template. “I don’t worry too much about that,” said the 22-year-old. “I know it will come back at some point and until then I’ll try to get a good feeling about duels and being ready to run.” This is exactly how the team is dealing with the current peat slump.
“The opponents have adjusted to us better and we are perceived as a good team,” said Demirovic. This is one of the reasons why the sports club struggled against the defensive Berliners and previously in Bremen. The striker assumes that a team like Leverkusen will come in handy for the Freiburg team. “If a team wants to solve it playfully, it offers more space,” he said. The sports club then has to make better use of it than it did before. “We want to be more dangerous in the last third.”
The SC coach does not find it surprising that Bayer has no sense of achievement at the moment, “because almost every team has a phase like this in the season where they fail to win several games”. Freiburg also did not win nine games in a row in the first half of the season.
