Freiburg (AP) – Bundesliga club SC Freiburg has extended the contract with goalkeeper Mark Flekken. Last season, the 27-year-old was in the goal of Freiburg in eleven competitive games. After the change of the previous goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow to league rival Hertha BSC, Flekken, who came from MSV Duisburg in 2018, is hoping for the regular place. “I am really happy to be part of this club and am looking forward to the new season with its new challenges,” said Flekken in a club announcement on Sunday.

“With his meticulous way of working, Mark has shown that he has all the prerequisites to optimally fulfill our plans for the goalkeeper position”, said board member Jochen Saier. No information was given about the term of the contract.

The Freiburg team are thus pushing ahead with their plans for the goalkeeper position. The club recently extended the contract with substitute Niclas Thiede. The 21-year-old Thiede, who came from the youth of VfL Bochum in 2018, should be the third goalkeeper behind Flekken and Benjamin Uphoff in the coming season.
