Freiburg (dpa) – After the final whistle, both teams got the deserved applause from the spectators, and goal scorer Nico Huber also got hold of the jersey of former world champion Christoph Kramer. “It was a successful day for everyone involved,” said coach Daniel Farke after his competitive debut for Borussia Mönchengladbach. His counterpart Fabian Himmel from underdog SV Oberachern was “proud of the boys”. They would have received a “lesson in a positive sense”.
Led by triple goal scorer Marcus Thuram, the Gladbach team confidently made it into the second round of the DFB Cup. The striker scored a hat trick (3rd, 22nd and 36th minute) in the Bundesliga team’s 9-1 (6-0) win against Oberachern in the fifth division on Sunday. “We are happy that we have a player of Marcus’ quality and I am very sure that he will play a very, very good season for us,” said Farke of the Frenchman, whose future is open and whose contract at Borussia until 2023.
The other goals for the favorites were scored twice in front of 15,000 spectators by Jonas Hofmann (37′, 45’+3′), Rami Bensebaini (45′), Lars Stindl (47′), Joe Scally (59′) and Florian Neuhaus (78′). .
