Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Christian Günter, captain of the Bundesliga soccer club SC Freiburg, is hoping to play in the European championship. “Like everyone else, I’m hungry to play, everyone wants to play, that’s clear,” said the left-back in the training camp of the German national team of the “Stuttgarter Zeitung and the Stuttgarter Nachrichten” (Wednesday edition). “I’m happy about every minute I play – but even if none comes out, it’s already a huge experience for me. I can learn an incredible amount, and it is a dream that will come true for me at this EM.”
About his EM nomination, Günther said: “Our trainer Christian Streich said that Jogi Löw called him and told him that he wanted to take me to the EM.” He should then call the national coach back immediately. “That was an extraordinary moment that Christian Streich and I shared in the hotel room – I felt how happy he was for me after this long journey together,” said the professional footballer. “It’s an award for the whole club.”
