Freiburg (AP) – Despite the recent two defeats, Vincenzo Grifo does not yet write off a possible European Cup participation of SC Freiburg. “We still want to collect as many points as possible, and if we still have a chance at Europe in the last four to five games, we are of course in the mood for it,” said the offensive man of the Bundesliga club of the German press agency. Grifo and Freiburg will face FC Augsburg at the end of the 26th matchday on Sunday (6 p.m. / Sky). The 27-year-old will then go back to the Italian national team.

He was not surprised to have been nominated for the upcoming international matches of the Squadra Azzurra, but it remains “something very special” for Grifo. He has lost his great respect for the stars of the national team, but he feels “a great anticipation to be able to measure myself against the boys, but also to show what I have learned and how I have developed further”. In the current Bundesliga season he has seven goals and six assists.

Grifo “doesn’t worry about the fact that he hasn’t scored in the second half of the season, there are still nine games to come and the chance to score”. And against the upcoming opponents, against whom the sports club remained unbeaten in the first half of the season, greater than last. The personal sense of achievement is not so important to him anyway. “It’s about the team,” stressed Grifo.
