Freiburg (dpa) – Left-back Christian Günter continues to believe in his chance of being appointed to the national soccer team. “I can still recommend myself. It’s not that I’m completely out,” said the captain of SC Freiburg to the German press agency. The left-back was not taken into account by national coach Hansi Flick after he took office.
He had “one or the other conversation” with Flick, said Günter. “I’m not worrying about that,” he said, referring to another nomination: “But it is a goal to play for the national team again. I would be lying if I said I am not happy.”
Günter von Flick’s predecessor Joachim Löw was nominated for the European Football Championship, but was not used. The 28-year-old has completed three international matches so far. He made his debut in 2014, and two more internationals were added last June in preparation for the European Championship.
