Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – The championship trophy for VfL Wolfsburg, the third place in the Champions League for Eintracht Frankfurt and relegation for SC Sand.
On the last matchday of the women’s Bundesliga, the title winner from Lower Saxony, who has been confirmed for a week, celebrated once again at the official ceremony. The women from Frankfurt snatched participation in the premier class from 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam. Second relegated next to FC Carl Zeiss Jena is SC Sand from Baden.
The Eintracht team coached by Niko Arnautis defeated Werder Bremen 4-0 (1-0) on Sunday and ousted Potsdam, who lost 5-0 at FC Bayern Munich, from third place in the table. For the Frankfurt women, it is the first participation in the premier class since the predecessor club 1. FFC Frankfurt merged with Eintracht in summer 2020. In the last game under coach Jens Scheuer, FC Bayern did not show any weaknesses against Potsdam.
Hoffenheim and Potsdam against empty
Together with Wolfsburg and Munich, Frankfurt will now represent the Bundesliga in the lucrative Champions League next season. Last year’s participant TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, like Potsdam, went away empty-handed.
The Wolfsburg women had already replaced defending champion FC Bayern last weekend and were now honored as champions by national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and the DFB top players Bernd Neuendorf and Sabine Mammitzsch. In the end, VfL won 7-1 against Bayer Leverkusen. The top scorer in the league was Lea Schüller from Munich with 16 goals. Despite a 3-3 draw in Hoffenheim, SC Sand has to go to the second division after eight years in the upper house.
