Würzburg / Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – The Würzburger Kickers have appealed to the German Football Association against the rating of the lost second division game at Darmstadt 98 (0: 2). As the DFB announced on Tuesday, the bottom of the table from Lower Franconia cited irregular conditions as the reason. Because of a positive Corona case with quarantine regulations against a number of players, the Kickers were only able to muster 14 players last Saturday, including two goalkeepers. An application to reschedule the game had been rejected in advance by the German Football League (DFL).
The objection to the 0: 2 was made on time. Until the beginning of the new year, the responsible DFB sports court gave the Würzburgers time to elaborate the objection in detail. A decision is then to be made on the further progress of the procedure.
After a member of the functional team of the licensed players’ team tested positive for the corona virus at the beginning of the previous weeks, the Würzburg health department ordered the professional team to be quarantined “until further notice”. The home game against FC St. Pauli planned for last Wednesday was therefore canceled by the DFL. The meeting should now be made up on January 6th.
In Darmstadt, however, the Lower Franconians had to compete because four players had been released from quarantine two days before the game. The team therefore had at least 15 players, which, according to the DFL statutes, is sufficient for special games. However, injured and banned players are also counted.
