Soccer – Frankfurt am Main – turning point in the Bobic case ?: Eintracht wants to keep the sports director – sport

Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – Fredi Bobic can only leave Eintracht Frankfurt early in the summer for a million dollar transfer fee. The supervisory board of the Hessian Bundesliga club does not want to let the sports board go without a fight and free of charge and on Wednesday refused the 49-year-old the early termination of his contract at the end of the season. This could turn the case around after Bobic had already announced his departure in the summer the previous week. There was recently speculation about a move to Hertha BSC.

The committee pointed out to Bobic that “his management contract will run until June 30, 2023 without any possibility of termination or exit,” said Eintracht on the evening after the eagerly anticipated supervisory board meeting. Bobic had confirmed this and declared “that he will behave in accordance with the contract and will therefore comply with his contract”.

However, a change of the ex-professional, who has held the post since 2016, is not finally off the table. The chairman of the supervisory board, Philip Holzer, was unanimously authorized by the committee to “negotiate the conditions for an early termination of Fredi Bobic’s executive board contract” if another club were interested in an obligation on the Frankfurt sports board.

From Hertha BSC? The Berliners are looking for the separation from manager Michael Preetz, but have not yet approached the Hessian league rivals. For Bobic it would be a professional return to his place of residence. Since his time as a Hertha striker from 2003 to 2005, he has lived with his family in the capital.

In his tenure so far with Eintracht, Bobic celebrated great successes. In 2018, Hessen won the DFB Cup in the final against FC Bayern Munich, and in 2019 they reached the semi-finals of the Europa League. The team of coach Adi Hütter is currently in fourth place in the Bundesliga, which would entitle them to participate in the Champions League for the first time.

In addition, the former striker showed a good sense of the squad composition. Bobic once brought affordable players and talents such as Ante Rebic, Sébastien Haller or Luka Jovic to the Main, with whom Eintracht caused a sensation and achieved a three-digit million euro amount on sales.
