Wolfsburg (dpa) – National goalkeeper Almuth Schult has reiterated the demands of the “Football can do more” initiative for a fundamental reform of the content and personnel of the German Football Association. It is “difficult to see through how the DFB really works,” said the goalkeeper of the German cup winner VfL Wolfsburg in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” (Wednesday). “We ask: How can we make the DFB Bundestag with the electors from the state and regional associations more diverse? How can the Presidium better represent the members?” The umbrella organization was “on average not male, white and over 50 years old, but diverse,” she said.

Schult is one of the nine women who launched the “Football Can Do More” initiative. In it, the initiators demand “clear rules in terms of gender equality in German football”. This includes, among other things, a quota for football associations of at least 30 percent women in management positions. The group also calls for an extraordinary Bundestag and a resolution on structural reform. “So that a breath of fresh air comes in with competent, independent people,” as the 30-year-old put it.

When asked if she could imagine becoming DFB President, Schult replied: “Basically, I can imagine anything that will advance football and help the association to become more accessible again.” She also pointed out that the position paper obliges her to take responsibility.
