Frankfurt / Main (dpa) – Lothar Matthäus practically rules out a return to the daily football business shortly before his 60th birthday, regardless of a possible engagement as national coach. “I can’t imagine doing such a day job again. I never want to say never. But a job like that where you are energized from morning to evening – probably not,” said the record international of the German press Agency.
Matthew will be 60 years old next Sunday. “I’ve learned to enjoy life,” said the Sky expert. “I’ve experienced the stress that one has in day-to-day business for 30 or 40 years on the football field and in the coaching bench. Now it’s more pleasant because I get more out of life.”
He was at peace with himself and his life, said Matthew. “You can never achieve everything. But I do believe that I can be perfectly happy,” said the 59-year-old. “I personally say: I have chosen the right path.”
