Frankfurt / Main (AP) – Goalkeeper Laura Benkarth from FC Bayern Munich is missing from the German women’s national team in the two upcoming World Cup qualifiers. The German Football Association announced on Sunday. The 29-year-old had to cancel the games on Friday (4 p.m. / ZDF) in Braunschweig against Turkey and on November 30 (7 p.m. / livestream on zdf.de) in Faro against host Portugal due to knee problems. According to the DFB announcement, national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg decided not to make a subsequent nomination for the time being.

Nominated for the goalkeeper position are the regular goalkeeper Merle Frohms from Eintracht Frankfurt, Olympic champion Almuth Schult from VfL Wolfsburg and Ann-Katrin Berger from FC Chelsea.

The line-up of 25 players will meet on Monday afternoon in Wolfsburg to prepare for the two final international matches of the year. The DFB selection leads the World Cup qualification group H with four wins from four games and a goal difference of 20: 1. Only the first in the group will qualify directly for the 2023 World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand. The runners-up play for two more places in the playoffs.
