Soccer – Frankfurt am Main – Frankfurt’s Glasner: “Somewhere there is always war in the world” – Sport

Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – Eintracht Frankfurt’s head coach Oliver Glasner also sees professional sport as entertainment in difficult times. “Clearly: It offers a chance for distraction. The question is: How well can you distract yourself if you may have just seen a video that showed terrible war scenes. But we can’t stop everything now and wait, what is happening in Ukraine,” said the Austrian in an interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung” (FAS), which was previously published online. These are “scary times” for many, Glasner added.

“My daughter recently asked me: ‘Dad, is Putin coming to Austria too?’ “I tried to calm them down. There is one terrible fact that we must not forget with all the suffering we are seeing in Ukraine at the moment: Unfortunately, there is always war somewhere in our world,” said Glasner. The head coach referred to Sudan, Afghanistan and Iraq.

The current situation reminds him of rocket attacks in Syria or Afghanistan, Glasner said. “That was also very bad. And today something like this is happening practically on our doorstep, in Europe. The current events are an absolute catastrophe.”
