Cologne (AP) – U21 European champion Ismail Jakobs is moving from Bundesliga soccer club 1. FC Köln to AS Monaco and is therefore foregoing the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
As the French first division team and the Cologne team announced, the 21-year-old signed a contract until 2026. Both clubs had agreed not to disclose the transfer modalities, it said. The last transfer fee was around ten million euros.
“I am very proud to have signed with AS Monaco, a prestigious club that has played a very good season and has the prospect of participating in the Champions League,” said Jakobs. In the evening, the German Football Association (DFB) announced that Jakobs would not be traveling to Japan because of the club change. The German team is leaving for the Far East with 18 players left. In Wakayama City, the team of trainer Stefan Kuntz will move to a training camp in preparation, during which they will play a friendly game against Honduras on July 17th (10:00 a.m. CEST).
