Soccer – Bremen – Regionalliga Nord: Lübeck Derby and Hamburg’s secret favorite – sport

Hamburg / Kiel (dpa / lno) – After a long break, the Regional Football League North intervenes in the league game. 22 teams start this weekend in two seasons. However, the championship title does not entitle to direct promotion: The champion 2021/22 must then prevail against the champion of the Regionalliga Nordost.

VfB Lübeck has involuntarily ended its one-year adventure in the 3rd division and is back in the regional league. This brings the longed-for derby between VfB and Phoenix Lübeck in the northern season. For the first time since 1974, the clubs meet in a league game. Only three players remained from VfB’s third division squad.

It’s been a long time since the last regular regional league game was played. On March 8, 2020, 17 months ago, Eintracht Norderstedt and Weiche Flensburg split 0-0. In autumn 2020, eleven match days took place under Corona conditions, but since some teams had to be quarantined and the table was crooked, these games were later canceled.

In both seasons, there and back legs are played. After 20 games per team, the best five from the south (Lower Saxony / Bremen) and the north form a new league. Only those points will be taken that you won against your competitors.

The remaining twelve teams carry out the relegation round in the spring. The game will then only be played against the clubs from the other season, if possible twice, i.e. ten more games. At least five clubs are relegated to the major league at the end of the season.

The Hamburg association Teutonia 05 is viewed with interest. With the new trainer Dietmar Hirsch and 16 top-class entrants, Teutonia is a secret favorite and wants to tackle the promotion. Other contenders for the promotion round: Flensburg, Norderstedt, Holstein Kiel II, St. Pauli II and SV Drochtersen / Assel.
