Hack puts Nuremberg in the front
In the 8th minute, the Paderborn defense did not look good. Right-back Johannes Dörfler let Nürnberg’s Lohkemper cross. At the far post, Jamilu Collins did not jump up against Hack, so the Nuremberg man could head the ball over the line from a meter for the lead. In a fast-paced and intense game, the SCP had the chance to equalize just five minutes after the Nuremberg goal. After a corner, Sebastian Schonlau only headed the ball to the post (13th). In direct return, the guests had aluminum bad luck when Manuel Schäffler hit the crossbar from eleven meters (14th).
Again just four minutes later, the ball wriggled in the Nuremberg gate. Vasiliadis came, left an opponent around 18 meters from the goal and hit flat with his left corner. The jubilation of the Paderborns only resisted briefly. Because Dennis Srbeny got hold of the ball in the creation of the goal, referee Robert Hartmann withdrew the goal. A controversial decision, because a full 20 seconds passed between the handball and the conclusion. The SCP had another chance to equalize in the first half, but Nuremberg goalkeeper Christian Mathenia scratched a Uwe Hünemeier header off the line (26th). As a result, the SCP often lacked the necessary precision in the forward game.
Lohkemper hits after a counterattack
The second half started just like the first: with a goal from Nuremberg. Johannes Geis sent Schäffler into the depths against an advanced SCP. In the middle, Lohkemper ran along and sank Scheffler’s flank from seven meters free-standing with his head in the long corner (49th). It was only the third real goal opportunity for the Nuremberg team, but they used their chances effectively.
The SCP pressed the connection goal until the end and was the team that determined the game. As in the first half, precision and penetration were lacking. In the end, the Paderborns simply lacked the means against compactly standing Nuremberg.
The Paderborn team will have their next task ahead of them on Friday. Then the SCP travels to VfL Bochum.
