Sober and insured: New rules on Italy’s ski slopes

Frankfurt am Main.
New regulations apply in the Italian winter sports areas – for more safety on the slopes. Liability insurance is mandatory and the blood alcohol limit is the same as in road traffic.

In Italy, winter sports enthusiasts now need private liability insurance. According to the Italian Tourist Board (Enit), skiers and snowboarders are not allowed on the slopes without these. A corresponding law has been in force since January 1, 2022. Violations can result in fines of up to 150 euros and the withdrawal of the ski pass.

Tourists should make sure that the insurance also covers “damage to third parties” when skiing, according to Enit. Otherwise, additional insurance can be taken out on site when purchasing the ski pass.
