Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Prime Minister French, Jean Castex refused to loosen up lockdown after health authorities reported about 43 thousand new infections corona virus over the weekend.
Castex warned French citizens to help prevent transmission by limiting private gatherings in their homes.
“Nothing should be ruled out when we look at the situation in our hospital … There is no leeway,” Castex told broadcaster France Info.
“The national lockdown must be avoided at all costs,” he added.
Quoting Associated Press, currently nine cities including Paris, Marseille and Lyon are on maximum alert for the coronavirus. Local officials warned that France was currently experiencing a second wave of the Covid-19 epidemic.
The virus is spreading faster across the country and the hospital situation in France is getting worse by the day. The government has issued calls, including for students and cooks, to volunteer at the forefront of Covid-19 patient care.
A doctor named Yves Cohen said he knew that the Covid-19 care ward was currently filling up fast.
“The number of patients has doubled over the past 15 days and we now have 16 patients with Covid-19 out of a total of 24 beds reserved for serious Covid-19 patients in the ICU,” said Cohen.
The government will review health data at its weekly defense council meeting on Wednesday (14/10) next week to take further action on tighter restrictions in some areas. Later President Emmanuel Macron will convey further decisions to the public.
The maximum level of vigilance in France is when a region’s infection rate exceeds 250 cases per 100,000 people and at least 30 percent of the intensive care beds provided are used to treat Covid-19 patients.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Paris region Public Health Agency, Aurelien Rousseau, has raised concerns about the reduced number of ICU rooms available due to a serious spike in viral infections. The rate of testing positive for the corona is currently at 17 percent in the Paris area.
“This morning we had 474 sick people in the ICU, which means we have reached more than 42 percent of the beds occupied (by Covid-19 patients),” Rousseau told BFM TV.
France is only one of many countries in Europe that is facing the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. France has so far recorded 743,479 cases of corona with 32,779 deaths.
