SOAPCHECKS. A long suisse in ‘Thuis’ and a short haircut in ‘Family’ | TV

TVWhether ‘Family’, ‘Thuis’, ‘Neighbors’ or ‘Sturm Der Liebe’: Most Flemings have a permanent fixture with their favorite soap opera. In order not to leave you hungry between broadcasts, we keep the pulse of the wrist in soapland. Because not only on the set, but also behind and next to the screen there is a lot to experience. Find out every week in our soap check.

‘Home’: not connected

In ‘Thuis’, the two agents Tim (Jeroen Lenaerts, 40) and Dieter (Raf Jansen, 42) have founded a musical group: ‘The Interception’. There’s a lot of evidence, but it won’t be very loud. Some viewers have rightly noted on their fan site that Dieter’s keyboard is not connected, as there is no cable connected.

‘Family’: Prison

Actor Maxime De Winne (45) posted a spoiler and will his character Quinten in ‘Family’ soon end up in prison because he smuggled drugs last season? That’s what many fans on their viewer forums suspect, now that the actor has posted a strange Instagram selfie of him. On it he can be seen with a short haircut, which he himself describes as: ‘Military army haircut but peaceful and soft.‘ Soon her character will also be walking around in the soap like this. Why does she fit into her new prisoner look?

‘At home’: Fixed appointment

The approximately 1.2 million “Thuis” fans who watch their favorite series every night have a different appointment time than this week. Due to the World Cup in Qatar, the soap is no longer broadcast at 20:10 but at 18:30. “More important than the broadcast time is the news that ‘Thuis’ can remain a fixture,” says ‘Thuis’ producer Hans Roggen. “All the episodes that will air during next month’s World Cup are finished and are fine. Now it’s up to the viewer to find us. You can still do it live, but at 6.30pm on One. But also in a later hour and then on VRT MAX. Even before the World Cup, not all ‘Home’ fans watched the episodes live, but 90% did so on the same day. Only 10 percent watched postponed to a later date. That’s why we expect that we will continue to reach our audience.”

‘Home and Family’

March will be a busy wedding month in the land of the Flemings, because then the wedding bells will ring in rapid succession in both “Thuis” and “Familie”. Earlier it was known that Christine (Daphne Paelinck, 34) and Adil (Nawfel Bardad-Daidj, 33) will say yes on March 17 in “Thuis”. Two weeks later it’s the turn of Benny (Roel Vanderstuks, 45) and Samira (Belinda Voorspoels, 30) in ‘Familie’. The fact that the two wedding parties are scheduled so close to each other in the season of the soaps is purely coincidental, because the two productions do not know each other’s timings.

‘Family’ actor Jan Van den Bosch (Zjef, 38) and his wife Fran have separated. The couple, who have two children together, have been together for 18 years, three of them married. “Earlier this year, Fran and I decided to continue as friends and no longer as a married couple,” says Jan. “And that’s good in a good relationship, everything goes very well. I think we broke up at the right time, while we could still be friends and before resentment arose. We have always managed to communicate well with each other, without hurting or blaming each other. Now I’m ready to date again, because that’s part of the pursuit of happiness too. I can only hope that Fran meets someone too.

‘Lisa’: Pacemaker

Eve Hanssen

Evi Hanssen celebrated her 44th birthday not only with cake and her family, but also with two extra parties. For example, you have published your latest book ‘Another 9 minutes: meditation for children’, which you wrote together with Hilde De Baerdemaeker (44) and Jutta Borms (49) with Horizon publishers. And she celebrated on TV with her debut in ‘Lisa’, in which she plays Sofie, the new partner of Suzanne (Hilde De Baerdemaeker). “On set I feel safe with Hilde, because I think she’s a very good actress,” Evi says. Plus, we’re good friends in real life. As the quirky Sofie, I’ll bring a little more spice and adventure into the life of the sometimes too good Suzanne and that will sometimes even include one too many drinks or a fun cigarette. Sophie is great to play with. Everyone wants to be such a pacesetter in her circle of friends or maybe even be a little bit themselves.’

‘Family’: Well done

‘Family’ actor Jef De Smedt (Jan) works as a volunteer at Leuven’s Poverello, an organization that offers cheap meals (for 1 euro) to the underprivileged. “I’ve wanted to help the underprivileged and the homeless for a long time, but I never got around to it,” says Jan. “Until I got divorced a while ago. After my marriage broke up, I fell into a black hole, and due to the pandemic, the recordings of “Family” also stopped for a while. I had nothing to do and wanted to make myself useful. At Poverello I was welcome and I sit at the reception or join the table to have a chat. The feeling of doing good to others also makes me happy. I help others with it but also myself. Without volunteering, depression wouldn’t be far off, I’m afraid. But Poverello helped me to recover”.

‘Home’: Unprecedented long

“Have you ever seen such a long suisse,” was the quip of several fans on the ‘Thuis’ viewer forum. The coffee cake in the scene between Thilly (Lauren Müller) and Harry (Stan Van Samang) was really out of proportion. Lauren Müller also joined the discussion and said that she too thought she was a “long invisible suisse”. The actress has the right to speak because she is the daughter of a baker.

‘Home’: Earn less

This week the transformation plan will be discussed in the VRT board of directors. The savings plan also provides for the transition from “Thuis” to an external production company. This causes turmoil between the cast and crew of 70, because as a result some would earn up to 400 euros less a month. The ‘Home’ team has therefore already discussed and also received Frederik Delaplace, the managing director of the VRT, for an interview that lasted more than two hours. This week, decisions can be made in the file.

‘Family’: Fire

The Rand Zone Fire Department staged a disaster drill with a fictitious cooling plant fire at AED Studios in Lint. Help arrived en masse with police and ambulances. The entire building has been evacuated, including the studios and ‘Family’ boxes. The recordings therefore had to be temporarily stopped. But all for safety!
